Change Your Clock/Change Your Battery™

Each year, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) sponsors a campaign to help keep household smoke alarms working: Change Your Clock/Change Your Battery™.

According to the Home Safety Council, 97% of American homes have at least one smoke alarm installed, but less than one in five tests the alarms at least quarterly. Safety experts recommend testing home smoke alarms monthly and replacing the batteries once a year or when they chirp, signaling low battery power.

When you change your clocks back in the fall, replace the batteries in all your smoke alarms, and then hold a family fire drill.

Remember CO Detectors Too

Use this opportunity to replace the batteries in all your CO detectors as well.
