CASE STUDY – 2006 Salute to Home Safety Excellence Award Winner

Award Overview:

The Home Safety Council awarded the USG Corporation, a leading manufacturer of building materials, the 2006 Salute to Home Safety Excellence Award based on their Family and Home Safety Program.

USG emphasizes family and home safety for all of their employees because they believe safety proves to be just as important, if not more, in the workplace as in homes. USG encourages the safety attitude to be taken home in order to protect their families and loved ones.

Program Overview:

• USG publishes, distributes, and posts on the web the Guide to Family/Home Safety Preventing, Preparing for and/or Responding to Emergency Situations
• In-plant monthly safety meetings address topics like outdoor safety, winter safety and many more
• Safety demonstrations held during plant picnics show bike handling skills
• USG encourages participation in the Gypsums Association’s safety poster contest for employee children
• Safety themes and topics contribute to children’s knowledge at the annual Kid’s at Work Day
• USG encourages all plants to involve employees in HSC’s Home Safety Month program each June
• Each plant implements specific safety calendar contests
