HSC Partners with Kidde for the Safe Home Safe Baby Campaign
Home Safety Council research shows that fires and burns are the leading cause of unintentional home injury deaths for children ages one to four and the second leading cause for infants under age one. Yet, fire safety remains a low priority with parents of young children. In fact, a recent survey of more than 400 new and expectant parents reveals that fire safety isn’t even one of parents’ top three concerns when preparing to bring a new child home. The survey, sponsored by Kidde, the world's largest manufacturer of fire safety products with technical guidance from the Home Safety Council, also found that on average parents spend far more money on clothing and toys than safety products for their children. When parents do think about safety, they do not cover everything – most parents don’t think to buy additional carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms. In addition, nearly 78 percent of the parents surveyed have never conducted a home fire drill.
The Home Safety Council is partnering with Kidde to educate parents on the leading causes of home injury for children and the steps parents can take to keep their children safe at home. The Safe Home Safe Baby Campaign aims to raise awareness for the importance of preparing a childproof and fire safe home to help new and expectant parents keep their babies and toddlers safe and happy at home.
