The Great Safety Adventure (GSA) kicked off the fall season with terrific attendance by public policy staffers.

On the East Coast in Tampa, Florida, the GSA was happy to welcome Chloe Coney, District Director for Representative Kathy Castor (D-11th FL). Coney took a tour with our very own Safety Ranger, Joe Straughan, at Robles Elementary on October 15, 2007.

“The exhibit was very informative and the students enjoyed learning about home safety,” Coney said. “I learned about using the back of your hand on the door.”

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, cheers of “I will never forget this – this is the best thing in Texas!” and “I am Rover’s biggest fan!” were heard from elementary school students, excited after graduating as our newest Safety Rangers.

Tomás Larralde, District Director for Congressman Ciro D. Rodriguez (D-23rd TX) took a tour through the GSA at Canyon Ridge Elementary in San Antonio, Texas. Larralde was one of over 500 participants that learned important ways to maintain a safe home on October 10, 2007.

“I enjoyed my visit and was impressed not only with the set-up of the Great Safety Adventure but how engaged the kids were,” Larraldo said. “The students were listening intently and they all participated when asked questions about home safety.”

Larralde was also impressed when he heard that many of the kids who tour GSA apply their new safety knowledge back at home.

“I picked up a few good hints as well so I am glad we received the invitation,” he sad.

Also visiting the GSA on October 17, 2007 at Longs Creek Elementary in San Antonio, Texas was Gerardo Interiano, District Director for Representative Lamar Smith (R-21st TX). Interiano was impressed with the way that the staff at the Great Safety Adventure was able to engage the children.

“Not only were the children having a great time interacting with Rover, but they were also given the opportunity to learn,” Interiano said. “The information provided to these children is invaluable and could one day be life-saving to them as well as their family and friends.”

As the fall season rolls on, the Home Safety Council hopes to continue to see public policy involvement included in the Great Safety Adventure
