Support the Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act of 2005
On March 3, 2005, Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Rep. Curt Weldon (R-7th PA) introduced S. 512 and .R. 1131 the Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act of 2005. The Senate and House bills are companion legislation that will address fire safety by amending the Internal Revenue Code to classify automatic fire sprinkler systems as five-year depreciable property. Retrofitting a building with an automatic fire sprinkler system is costly, and current tax law does not offer incentive to owners to install because the cost must be depreciated over a long period of time. This legislation encourages building owners to install automatic fire sprinkler systems because it allows for a shorter depreciation time.
Please show your support for this important legislation by sending a letter to your Senators and Representative. A sample letter is attached.
