April 2008: Summary: The Fire Safety for Older Adults and People with Disabilities Webinar highlighted best practices from programs being used to reach older adults, people with disabilities and their caregivers with critical messages to help prevent and protect against fire-related injuries. This topic is especially important as Home Safety Council research shows that fire is the third leading cause of home injury-related death and older adults and people with disabilities are significantly more vulnerable to injuries from home fires. Sharon Gamache of the National Fire Protection Association and Dr. Karen Stroup of Riley Hospital for Children were the featured experts who joined Home Safety Council Director of Education and Outreach, Dr. Angela Mickalide to present the Webinar.
