Protect Your Curious Little
Ones from Poisons
As babies grow, they quickly become more curious. Before you know it, your little baby will be running around, opening doors and imitating everything you do. While this is a fun time for you and your child, you also have to be very careful. Your little one could get into the cabinet to find medicines, cleaners or cosmetics the minute your back is turned.
The best way to protect your children from poisons is to do a walk-through of your home and find where you keep all potential poisons. Be sure to check the bathroom, kitchen, garage and laundry room. Read the labels of the products you use. Look for the words “Caution”, “Warning”, “Poison,” “Danger” or ”Keep Out of Reach of Children.” Gather all potentially poisonous items and make sure they have child safety caps in place. Then, store these items on a high shelf or cabinet where children cannot reach them and secure the cabinets with child safety locks.
Use the Home Safety Council’s advice below for additional tips to help you poison proof your home.
