Start Safe: A Fire and Burn Safety Education Program

Protect Your Little Ones from
Choking and Suffocation
One of the most important things you can do for your new baby in the first year of life is to keep him or her safe while sleeping. Selecting and assembling the crib, choosing the right sleepwear and adjusting the temperature of the room, all affect your baby's safety.
As your baby becomes more active and curious, he will naturally want to smell, feel and taste everything around him. Make sure you stay one step ahead by taking steps today to protect against potential choking and suffocation hazards.
Start by walking through your home and putting all objects small enough to fit through a toilet paper tube, such as coins and marbles, up high where your children can’t reach them. Also look for any window blind cords with a loop and cut the loop in two separate pieces. Then place the window blind cords up high where your children can’t reach them.
