Keep Your Family Safe and
Warm this Winter
Everyone looks forward to relaxing after the busy holiday season, but before lighting a fire in the fireplace and retreating to the couch, make time for one more activity. Create a winter home safety checklist of things to do to keep your family protected against fires and carbon monoxide (CO) – two of the most common winter safety hazards.
Start by having a trained professional inspect your home heating equipment and installing at least one CO detector at home. Heating equipment and fuel-burning appliances can put out dangerous levels of CO and cause home fires if they aren’t properly maintained.
If you use portable and electric space heaters, keep them at least three feet away from anything that can burn - including furniture, people, pets and curtains.
