Weekly Reader Programs

As a part of an ongoing effort to bring home safety education into classrooms, the Home Safety Council has partnered with leading education company Weekly Reader to create high-quality safety curriculums for elementary classrooms. The Home Safety Council's online resources are updated regularly with new lesson plans and educational tools. Start Safe: A Fire and Burn Safety Program for Preschoolers and their Families program provides resources for preschool teachers and administrators to work hand-in-hand with a local fire department to reach parents of preschool children with key safety messages and see that the parents take the steps needed to make their homes safer. The program messages have been carefully developed to work with the targeted high-risk population.

Get Ready with Freddie

Students from grades 3-4 will follow Freddie through the steps to develop a communications plan and assemble "Ready-to-Go" and "Ready-to-Stay" preparedness kits for their homes.
