Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention and Detection Webinar

Commonly known as the silent killer, carbon monoxide (CO) is an invisible and odorless poisonous gas produced by fuel-burning equipment and appliances in the home. CO alarms provide early detection of this dangerous gas before it becomes life threatening and are critical to preventing accidental CO poisoning injuries and deaths.

Marking a major step forward in the effort to prevent accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in the United States, in September 2008 the International Code Council (ICC) passed a new requirement making carbon monoxide detectors mandatory in all homes with attached garages or fuel-fired equipment. The requirement covers new and existing dwellings and will take effect in 2009.

Safety advocates like the Home Safety Council and our partners at First Alert are thrilled with this important advancement and we are asking fellow safety advocates like you to join us in adding your voices to the call for legislative action to help reduce the thousands of CO-related injuries that occur every year.
